Accreditation main

Accreditations

The two primary types of higher education accreditation include institutional accreditation, and specialized or programmatic accreditation.

Institutional accreditation applies to an entire college or university. Specialized or programmatic accreditation applies to specific programs, departments, or schools within an institution.

Regional accreditation is a type of institutional accreditation that indicates a college or university meets the same operational standards as other regionally accredited institutions within its designated geographic area.

Excelsior College is accredited through the year 2022 by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, one of six regional accrediting agencies recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. This agency reviews colleges and universities in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington DC.

"We have all been extremely impressed by what we have seen at Excelsior College. You have created a culture here which is rare. You have a college which has an open-access admissions policy, charges a low tuition, provides students with a high-quality education, and operates with strong financials. You have a very dedicated faculty, administration, and staff, academically challenging programs, and satisfied students who truly feel that everyone at the college cares about them." - Middle States Commission on Higher Education, 2012
