André Vacroux

Dr. Vacroux first came to the United States as a Fulbright student upon graduating from France’s leading electrical engineering school, the Ecole Supérieure d’Electricité. From 1965 to 1972 and from 1975 to 1990 he was with the electrical engineering department of the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he served as department chair (1975–1980), dean of the Armour College of Engineering (1980–1988), and director of the Telecommunications Systems Center (1987–1990).

From 1990 to 2000, he was dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Southern Methodist University (SMU). While there, he introduced four new master’s degree programs, expanded a distance education program, and founded four off-campus computer education centers that generated $25 million of revenue annually by the end of his tenure. Upon retirement, Dr. Vacroux became an SMU dean emeritus, engineering and president of the National Technological University in Ft. Collins, Colorado.

Dr. Vacroux has been involved in the practical aspects of engineering and computer technology. He spent over three years (1972–1975) on the technical staff in the digital transmission laboratory of Bell Labs in Holmdel, New Jersey, and has consulted for many firms. He is frequently called upon to serve as an expert witness in matters of intellectual property. Dr. Vacroux continued these activities following his retirement.
