Assessment Methodology

The achievement of program outcomes is assessed through various measures. Specifically, four metrics are used to measure the achievement of program outcomes:

Direct Measure 1: The percentage of the ELEC 495 students who receive a grade of 2 (out of 3) or higher on the learning statements and supporting evidence for the related program outcome.

Direct Measures 2a & 2b: The percentage of the students who receive a grade of B or higher on two selected course embedded assessment that measure the related program outcome.

Indirect Measure 1: The mean of the graduates' perceptions of their achievement of the related program outcomes (data collected from the exit survey).

Indirect Measure 2 (Reference): The mean of the graduates' perceptions of their achievement of the related program outcomes (data collected from the one-year survey). The results of the one year post-graduation survey are used as a reference to provide a longitudinal perspective on students' attainment of program outcomes. It is not a valid measure of program outcome attainment.

Highly Achieved:

- 85% or more of ELEC 495 students will receive a rating of 2 (out of 3) or better on the Capstone Rubric for the designate program outcome.
- 85% or more of students will receive a grade of B or better on two selected course embedded assessments that measure the related program outcome.
- From the results of the exit survey, the mean of the graduates' perceptions of their achievement of the related program outcomes will be 5 or higher on a 6-point Likert-scale.

Meets Standard:

- 70% to 84% of ELEC 495 students will receive a rating of 2 (out of 3) or better on the Capstone Rubric for the designate program outcome.

Capstone Course: ELEC 495 Integrated Technology Assessment is the capstone course for the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology program. It is an online portfolio development experience that requires students to reflect on their past academic and professional experiences and use the information gained from this reflective exercise to develop learning statements related to the Electrical Engineering Technology degree program outcomes (see course syllabus for detailed grading).

#### Capstone exam RESULTS

A comprehensive capstone examination has been administered to all baccalaureate degree students at the conclusion of the ELEC 495 Integrated Technology Assessment since September 2010. The capstone examination consists of 120 objective questions that assess the most common and most important topics and skills in seven core content areas within the College's baccalaureate degree electrical engineering technology curriculum.

From May 2012 term to March 2013 term, the total number of students who took the capstone exam was 16. Overall average is 53.2%. The mean of correctness in each core concept is shown below:

- 39.8% - Alternating Current Circuit Concepts
- 35.9% - Basic Circuit Analysis Methods
- 66.7% - Digital Electronics
- 48.1% - Analog Electronics
- 48.8% - Microcontrollers and Microprocessors
