Yes. Excelsior College reviews credit from degree-granting institutions to determine if those credits will transfer. See the Student Policy Handbook (PDF) for details.

Official transcripts and documents are those that a college, testing agency, or education office send directly to Excelsior's Office of Registration and Records at your request. Visit our Transcripts and Documents page for more details.

Students new to Excelsior must first apply for admission. Excelsior graduates, previously enrolled students, and military service members should contact the College before applying for admission.

You may enroll as soon as you receive the results of your preliminary review (login required) of your application for admission, notifying you of how your prior credits may apply toward a degree.

Yes. Visit our International Student page for details. Academic work completed at institutions outside the United States must be degree-level study undertaken at a university that has been officially recognized as degree or diploma-granting by the regulating agency for higher education in your home country. Your international transcript must be evaluated by an evaluation agency that is approved by Excelsior College and that specializes in the evaluation of such transcripts.

Excelsior College accepts credits from a wide variety of sources. In general, Excelsior College accepts credits from those colleges and universities that are regionally accredited, those recognized by the New York State Education Department, and those that have been evaluated by the Excelsior College faculty and found to follow acceptable educational practices and apply toward our degree programs. No. Unofficial copies of transcripts will not be evaluated, and submitting them will delay the application process.

Yes. Excelsior College awards examination-related college credit through the following types of exams:

  • Excelsior College Examinations
  • UExcel examinations
  • Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations
  • College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) Tests
  • DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST)
  • Defense Language Proficiency Tests (DLPT) 
  • IT certification examinations 
  • Other examinations that are recommended for credit by the American Council on Education (ACE)

You can check the status of your Preliminary Review from your MyExcelsior after the 2-3 week review period. Log in and select the Preliminary Review option on your My Details page. If you want information about the status of your application before the review period is complete, you must call or email the Admissions Office at 888-647-2388, ext. 22, or email application@excelsior.edu.

Follow the instructions in the applications. You will need a credit card to pay the application fee.
 

The undergraduate application fee is $80; the graduate application fee is $100. These non-refundable application fees cover the cost of your preliminary review.

Note: If you earned a bachelor’s degree from Excelsior College your graduate application fee will be waived.
