Time Limit on Transfer Credits

Excelsior College's generous transfer policies are designed to maximize the value of your prior education. We accept as many credits as we can. Previously earned credit will be awarded, when applicable, to meet content distribution areas and degree specific requirements.

Time limits exist in some degree programs to ensure that transfer credits meet present-day academic standards. General guidelines for time limit on transfer credit are noted below.

All Degrees - Information literacy: Excelsior College will not consider credits earned more than 5 years prior to the date of enrollment.

  • Undergraduate business component: Effective enrollments on or after July 1, 2015 we will not consider business component courses earned more than 15 years prior to the date of enrollment.
  • AS in Business, BS in Business: Effective enrollments on or after July 1, 2015 we will not consider business component courses earned more than 15 years prior to the date of enrollment.
  • BS in Business to MBA dual degree programs: Effective enrollments on or after July 1, 2015 we will not consider business component courses earned more than 15 years prior to the date of enrollment.
  • Undergraduate Business courses that meet waiver for the graduate Foundation Cores of Marketing, Business Ethics, Economics, Organizational Behavior and Quantitative Analysis will not be considered if earned more than 10 years prior to the date of enrollment.
  • MS in Management, MBA, and BS in Business to MBA dual degree programs: Excelsior College will not consider graduate-level credits earned more than 10 years prior to the date of enrollment.
  • BS in Health Care Management to MBA dual degree: Excelsior College will not consider credits earned more than 20 years prior to the date of enrollment toward the undergraduate professional business core requirements. In addition, we will not consider credits earned more than 10 years prior to the date of enrollment toward the graduate component.
  • MS in Health Science degree specializations: Excelsior College will not consider credits earned more than 7 years prior to the date of enrollment toward the specializations in this degree.
  • BS in Natural Sciences: Excelsior College will not consider science credits earned more than 10 years prior to the date of enrollment.
  • General education component (associate degree in nursing programs only): For Anatomy/Physiology, Microbiology, and Information Literacy, Excelsior College will not consider credits earned more than 5 years prior to the date of enrollment. There is no time limit for other transfer credits in the general education component.
  • Nursing component: Excelsior College will not consider nursing theory credits earned more than 5 years prior to the date of enrollment.
  • MS in Criminal Justice and Master of Public Administration programs: Excelsior College will not consider graduate-level credits earned more than 10 years prior to the date of enrollment.

New Technology Time Limits Effective January 1, 2017

  • Cybersecurity Programs: Courses transferring into the cybersecurity component of the Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity or the Master of Science in Cybersecurity degree programs will be considered if completed within 5 years of submitting your enrollment agreement. Courses completed over 5 years prior to submitting your enrollment agreement may be appealed by submitting a time-limit appeal form (PDF) with your application.
  • Electrical Engineering Technology: Courses in the following areas will be considered in transfer to the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology if they were completed within 10 years of submitting your enrollment agreement: Computers, electrical (except DC and AC circuits) and electronics. Courses completed over 10 years prior to submitting your enrollment agreement may be appealed by submitting a time-limit appeal form (PDF) with your application.
  • General Technology Programs: Courses related to computers, electrical (except DC and AC circuits), and electronics transferring into the Associate in Science in Technology and the Bachelor of Science in Technology will be considered if completed within 10 years of submitting your enrollment agreement. Courses completed over 10 years prior to submitting your enrollment agreement may be appealed by submitting a time-limit appeal form (PDF) with your application.
  • IT Degree Programs: Courses transferring into the information technology component of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree program will be considered if completed within 5 years of submitting your enrollment agreement. Courses completed over 5 years prior to submitting your enrollment agreement may be appealed by submitting a time-limit appeal form (PDF) with your application.
  • Nuclear Engineering Technology: Courses in the following areas will be considered in transfer to the Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering Technology if they were completed within 10 years of submitting your enrollment agreement: Calculus I and II; natural sciences; computers, nuclear engineering technology core courses as well as electrical (except DC and AC circuits) and electronics courses. Courses completed over 10 years prior to the date of submitting your enrollment agreement may be appealed by submitting a time-limit appeal form (PDF) with your application.
