Changes to the Associate Degree in Nursing Program Requirements

A. Repeating nursing theory examinations.

Effective September 1, 2015, nursing students may take a specific nursing theory examination a maximum of three times and no more than three times in a given year. All attempts, passes and failures, will apply to the three attempt testing limit. Failing the same nursing theory examination at the third administration will lead to academic dismissal from the program for enrolled students and denial of admission to the nursing program for prospective students.

Students may repeat an examination 60 days after the first attempt and 120 days after the second and subsequent attempts.

B. For students with 6 or more D and/or F grades in the nursing theory series.

Students who enroll on or after January 1, 2016 and who earn a total of 6 or more D or F grades in the nursing theory series (courses, exams, nursing theory conference examinations) will be academically dismissed from the associate degree in nursing program.

Withdrawn and prospective students who have earned a combination of 6 or more D or F grades in the nursing theory series (courses, exams, nursing theory conference examinations) will be denied admission to Excelsior College associate degree in nursing program.
