About Criminal Justice Training Assessment

In April 2002, Excelsior College submitted a grant application to the United States Department of Justice requesting funds for the "Evaluation of Law Enforcement Training for Academic Credit Project." The grant request was approved in July 2002 and Criminal Justice Training Assessment  was created.

The Goals of Criminal Justice Training Assessment

• Enhance the ability of law enforcement and corrections professional to obtain college degrees
• Establish a process/program to evaluate criminal justice training academies and agencies across the country for meaningful academic credit
• Provide each evaluated training academy and agency with a report that includes a meaningful degree plans for students

Important Notice

For many years the CJTA service has offered a Credit Bank transcript service for $50 to those individuals who completed CJTA-assessed training programs. On Monday, June 1st, 2009 this reduced-fee service ended, as was indicated in a previous communication to all participating agencies.

After the aforementioned date, anyone wishing to have their CJTA-assessed training placed onto an Excelsior Credit Bank transcript will have to complete the traditional process by submitting a OneTranscript® application and paying the appropriate Credit Bank fee of $270.00. Overall, this is still a very economical way to accrue 16+ college credits towards a degree or simply to transcript them. As always, students may also apply their banked credits toward an Excelsior College degree; whether in criminal justice or one of our other degree programs.

Assessment Eligibility

Training providers are defined as not-for-profit organizations that provide criminal justice training. Training providers that are eligible to submit courses or programs for review include:

• Government agencies
• Training agencies and non-profits
• Training associations
• Training institutes
• Organizations whose primary purpose is to provide criminal justice training
