Delaware Board of Nursing Changes

On March 14, a letter was received from the Delaware Board of Nursing's executive director stating that the Board made a decision at their January 2013 meeting to only license Excelsior graduates by examination if they had applied for licensure prior to January 31, 2013. This action by the Board was taken without any prior notice to Excelsior College or an opportunity for representatives from the College to address the Board.

In the letter, the executive director also indicated that

  • the Board will continue to license graduates by endorsement according to their requirements, such as having 400 hours of clinical practice as a registered nurse in another U.S. jurisdiction or a federal facility in Delaware within the 2 years prior to application.
  • the change is a result of recent efforts to implement regulations pertaining to the criteria for approval of in-state nursing programs and eligibility requirements for RN licensure.

It is important to note that the decision to change their long standing practice of licensing our graduates is not based on any changes to our program or the performance of our graduates.

We are strenuously advocating for the ability of our graduates to be licensed in Delaware. In order to do so it is important that you use MyExcelsior, My Profile (login required) to update your email address so that we can keep you informed as we continue our efforts in Delaware.
