International Student Admissions

Thousands of international students enroll at Excelsior College every semester.

Our steps for international student admissions are easy to follow. And Excelsior’s format is especially convenient for international students who want to earn a degree from an accredited U.S. college.

International students choose Excelsior because:

Before applying for admission, international students should review the following information.

English requirement

International applicants from non-English-speaking countries must show evidence of English language proficiency through one of the following options:

• TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
  • Required minimum score of 525 on the paper based test or 69 on the Web-based test.
  • Scores older than two years at the time of your application to Excelsior will not be accepted.
• MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery)
  • Required minimum score of 75.
  • Scores older than two years at the time of your application to Excelsior will not be accepted.
• IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
  • Required minimum overall band score of 5.5.
  • Scores older than two years at the time of your application to Excelsior will not be accepted.
• Excelsior College® Examinations English Composition exam (ENGx111) or UExcel® College Writing exam (ENGx110).
• Completion of at least 9 credit hours of academic work in courses delivered in English at an institution of higher education in the United States.

Transferring credit from international universities

For all programs except nursing, Excelsior College awards credit for degree-level coursework completed at a university that has been officially recognized as degree- or diploma-granting by the regulating agency for higher education in your home country.

For nursing programs, Excelsior will not consider coursework from a hospital or diploma school of nursing, regardless of whether it was completed through an approved university or university-parallel institution.

To submit a transcript:

• Look for the institution(s) where you earned credit in the following publication: Institutions Outside the United States Whose Transcripts are Accepted Directly (PDF).
• If you find your institution(s) listed, have the institution(s) send official transcripts directly to Excelsior College.
• If you do not find your institution(s) listed, you must use an approved evaluation agency when submitting transcripts or credentials.

International credits for all programs except nursing must be evaluated by Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (ECE):
