Time Limit on Transfer Credits
Excelsior College's generous transfer policies are designed to maximize the value of your prior education. We accept as many credits as we can.
Time limits are in place to ensure that transfer credits meet present-day academic standards. General guidelines for time limit on transfer credit are noted below. All Degrees
- Information literacy: Excelsior College will not consider credits earned more than five years prior to the date of enrollment.
Nursing courses
- General education component: For Anatomy/Physiology, Microbiology, and Information Literacy, Excelsior College will not consider credits earned more than five years prior to the date of enrollment. There is no time limit for other transfer credits in the general-education component.
- Nursing component: Excelsior College will not consider credits earned more than five years prior to the date of enrollment. Download the School of Nursing catalog (PDF).
Business courses
- Undergraduate business component: Excelsior College will not consider credits earned more than 20 years prior to the date of enrollment.
- MBA or a Bachelor's/MBA Dual Degree: Excelsior College will not consider graduate-level credits earned more than 10 years prior to the date of enrollment.
Technology courses
- IT degree programs: Information technology and computer science courses will not be considered if earned more than 10 years prior to the date of enrollment.
- Cybersecurity programs: Excelsior College will not consider credits earned more than 10 years prior to the date of enrollment.
- Electronics/computer courses: Excelsior College will not consider credits earned more than 10 years prior to the date of enrollment. A time-limit appeal form (PDF) may be submitted with the undergraduate application.
Liberal arts courses
- Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences: Excelsior College will not consider science credits earned more than 10 years prior to the date of enrollment.
