Excelsior College Scholarship Programs

Complete the 2012-2013 Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA) to apply for an Excelsior College Scholarship. Our School Code is 014251.

Once your completed FAFSA form has been processed, you will be considered for a scholarship. Email our financial aid office at VAFA@excelsior.edu if you are not able to complete the FAFSA.

Scholarship Periods

AXA Foundation Scholarship This endowment fund provides scholarship support to assist financially needy students. Both enrolled and prospective students may apply.
Capital Region Scholarship in Honor of MVP Health Plan, Inc. For enrolled students who demonstrate financial need and live in the New York's Capital Region.
Capital Region Scholarship in Honor of KeyBank National Association For enrolled students who demonstrate financial need and live in the New York's Capital Region.
Charlene Gregg and Bobbie Kinsinger Scholarship Open to enrolled and future students who demonstrate financial need.
Citizens Bank Scholarship This scholarship assists both financially needy enrolled and future students.
Ewald B. Nyquist Scholarship This was established as a scholarship in memory of Ewald B. Nyquist, former Commissioner of Education and President of The University of the State of New York. His vision of an institution dedicated to the needs of adult learners led to the founding of what is now Excelsior College.  Scholarships support students who demonstrate financial need and high academic achievement.
Excelsior College Scholarship Endowment Fund Scholarships for both financially needy enrolled and future students.
Fred L. Emerson Foundation Scholarship Supports students in degree programs who demonstrate financial need and high academic achievement.
Pastor Angelina Robles Lopez Scholarship This scholarship is in memory of Pastor Angelina Robles Lopez, this scholarship was created by her husband to help an individual(s) achieve educational goals and dreams, based upon his wife’s desire to see every person better their own lives through educational opportunity. Pastor Lopez received her Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts in 1988. The fund is for individual(s) who want to enroll in College, but lack adequate financial resources.
President's Partner Scholarship Open to enrolled students employed in an Excelsior partnership organization
President's Scholarship Based on demonstration financial need. Enrolled as well as future students may apply.
Summo Scholarship   This scholarship has been funded to honor Dr. Anthony J. and Mary D. Summo. This scholarship is awarded to those students who demonstrate financial need. Recipients must be at least 30 years of age and be U.S. citizens; U.S. military personnel will not be excluded. Preference will be given to those who do not have other educational benefits available to them.
Bryanne Hamill Scholarship This scholarship is open to enrolled Excelsior College students majoring in Psychology working in New York State in a field that is involved with strengthening mental health services for children and parents.
David W. Miller Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is available to enrolled business and liberal arts students. To be eligible, you must be at least halfway through your degree program, have no outside affiliations resulting in educational support (e.g., VA/military benefits, assistance from professional organizations, etc.), and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Four applicants are awarded $1,000 each. The award applies toward Excelsior College fees.
Richard and Barbara Reeves-Ellington Scholarship This scholarship, at the donor’s request, is open to enrolled students pursuing bachelor’s degrees. This scholarship is awarded based on an essay focusing on ways you plan to pursue leadership roles that address gender issues and issues central to Middle Eastern and Central Asian Culture. This might include community service, education, or volunteer work.  This essay should be brief; not to exceed one page.  Please send essay to the financial aid office and ask for consideration of the Reeves-Ellington Scholarship.
Vivian Runyon Memorial Scholarship   This scholarship is open to students enrolled in the Excelsior College School of Liberal Arts. In honoring the donors’ wishes, enlisted, active duty personnel in the U.S. Armed Services will be given the highest priority.
Julia O. Wells Memorial Education Foundation Scholarship Open to registered nurses in New York State enrolled in bachelor of science in nursing, RN to master of science, and master of science in nursing programs.
Roy L. Simpson Endowment Fund for Nursing Informatics Open to enrolled students working toward the certificate program in health care informatics or the Master of Science in nursing degree with an emphasis in Informatics.
The Associate Degree in Nursing Scholarship For students enrolled in associate in science nursing and associate in applied science in nursing degree who demonstrate financial need.
Lois G. and William T. Moran Scholarship Funded by alumnus, William T. Moran and his wife, Lois, this scholarship has been established to help enrolled nursing degree students of who demonstrate financial need.
Brigadier General Jerry L. and Judy A. Neff Scholarship Scholarship opened to enrolled students who are members of the United States Army National Guard or the United States Air National Guard and demonstrate financial need.
Lieutenant General Joseph S. and Anita L. Laposata Scholarship Fund for Military Enlisted and Their Spouses Scholarships for financially needy students who are enlisted in the United States Military and their spouses.
Master Sergeant David K. Thuma Memorial Scholarship Fund 

This scholarship provides financial assistance for a student who is a member of the United States Army Special Forces, Career Management Field (CMF) 18. It is also available to Command Sergeants Major (CMF 00Z) of the Special Forces who hold a secondary MOS in CMF 18.

This scholarship can help cover the cost of the Enrollment/Initial Evaluation Fee and/or the Program Completion and Graduation Fee. Enrolled as well as future students may apply. The Master Sergeant David K. Thuma Scholarship is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and recommendations of your immediate supervisor and unit commander in grade O-5 (LTC) or above. To be considered for this scholarship, you must have served at least three years in Special Forces, and you must submit the following specific documents with your application:

  1. Certified copy Enlisted Record Brief.
  2. Copy of Diploma for Graduation from the Special Forces Qualifications Course.
  3. Letter of Recommendation from Immediate Supervisor.
  4. Letter of Recommendation from Unit Commander (LTC O-5 or above). The recommendation letter must contain one of the following statements:
    "I certify that (Rank/Name) is a Special Forces soldier in CMF 18."
    OR
    "I certify that CSM (Full Name) is a Command Sergeant Major in Special Forces."
Military Spouse Scholarship Supports both prospective and enrolled students who are spouses of active duty members.

Please send a copy of your current Military Spouse ID card to the Financial Aid Office. If you are receiving Post-9/11 benefits at 100% you are not eligible for this scholarship. You may fax to 518-464-8777. Please also complete the FAFSA application (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). School code is 014251.

The Military Financial Assistance Scholarship This scholarship is open to active duty servicemembers or reservists who have been on active duty a minimum period of time or who have been wounded during their active duty period. Each scholarship recipient will be responsible for at least 25% of the educational costs incurred.
