Examination Procedural Guidelines
Please Note: To avoid forfeiting your full examination fee, please keep the scheduled appointment for your examination or provide the required 24 hour lead-time for cancellations or rescheduling of an appointment, or request the 50% refund as outlined in A User's Guide: Using Examinations to Accomplish Individual Goals (PDF).
If you wish to switch this examination to another you can fax your written request containing your signature to Test Administration at 518-464-8777 or you may request the switch through My Message Center (compose message to Test Administration).
On The Day of Your Appointment
Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment.
If you arrive more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time for the exam, you may be refused admission and your exam fees will be forfeited.
Please bring one form of current photo identification (ID), on which your signature appears and your printed complete first and last names exactly match your name as it appears on your Authorization To Test letter. If the name on your ID is not exactly the same as it appears on the letter, please call us now toll free at 888-647-2388 ext. 166.
If you do not have the proper ID, you will not be allowed to test and your entire examination fee will be forfeited.
Acceptable forms of ID can include:
- Driver's license
- Driver's permit
- Employee ID card (with signature)
- Non-Driver's ID

If you have changed your name:
If your name with which you have registered is different from the name on your identification, you must bring legal name change documentation with you to the test center on the day of your test.
- The only acceptable forms of legal documentation are marriage licenses, divorce decrees, and/or court action legal name change documents.
- All documents must be in English and must be original documents.
You will be asked to store all of your belongings and you will not be allowed to study while in the waiting area at the Pearson Professional Center.
Under no circumstance will you be allowed to either go to your locker to access materials or leave a test center during a break.
If you leave the testing center during an unscheduled break, you may not be allowed to complete your examination and your grade will be invalidated.
All test takers must agree to abide by the terms of the Excelsior College Academic Honesty Policy before taking an examination.
The agreement will be presented on-screen prior to the start of your examination. By accepting the terms of the agreement, you will be able to proceed.
If you choose not to accept the terms of this agreement, your examination will be terminated and you will be required to leave the testing center. You will not be eligible for a refund.
After the Exam
Student behavior will continue to be monitored post administration and electronic measures are used to monitor the security of test items and scan for illegal use of intellectual property. This monitoring includes surveillance of Internet chat rooms, Web sites, and other public forums.
Test Preparation Advisory
Preparation for Excelsior College® Examinations, though based on independent study, is supported by Excelsior College with a comprehensive set of exam learning resources and services designed to help you succeed.
These learning resources are prepared by Excelsior College so you can be assured that they are current and cover the content you are expected to master for the exams. These resources, and your desire to learn, are usually all that you will need to succeed.
There are test-preparation companies that will offer to help you study for our examinations. Some may imply a relationship with Excelsior College and/or make claims that their products and services are all that you need to prepare for our examinations.
Excelsior College is not affiliated with any test preparation firm and does not endorse the products or services of these companies. No test preparation vendor is authorized to provide admissions counseling or academic advising services, or to collect any payments, on behalf of Excelsior College. Excelsior College does not send authorized representatives to a student's home.
Depending upon your individual learning style and needs, you may consider using the services and products of a test preparation vendor to help you prepare for an Excelsior College Examination. Some students have found such materials beneficial while others have not. The decision to purchase the services and products of any of these vendors is entirely up to you.
Excelsior College does not review the materials provided by test preparation companies for content or compatibility with Excelsior College Examinations.
To help you become a well-informed consumer we suggest that you consider the following before making any purchase decision regarding study materials provided by organizations other than Excelsior College.
Does the company:
- Clearly articulate that it is an independent business enterprise, separate from Excelsior College, and that it is not a degree granting institution?
- Clearly inform you that the products and services it provides have not been reviewed, nor are they endorsed, by Excelsior College?
- Openly indicate that it is not an agent of Excelsior College, that it is not authorized to provide admissions counseling or academic advising regarding Excelsior's degree requirements, and that all its costs and fees are separate from those you will pay to the College?
- Have a record of unresolved complaints/disputes with consumer protection agencies, nursing boards, attorneys general offices, or other similar organizations?
- Require clients to commit to long-term, binding contracts to access its products and services?
- Provide data to substantiate the satisfaction of its clients with its products and services?
