How can I get credit for my business experience?

You can validate your college-level knowledge in business or in other areas of collegiate study through a number of approved methods, including proficiency examinations such as Excelsior College® Examinations and College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP) subject examinations, and through Portfolio-Based Assessment of your acquired degree-related, college-level learning through your employment, community, volunteer, or other experiences.

MBA

What are the admission requirements for the MBA program?

Students with a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution may apply for admittance into the program. There is no Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT®) requirement

Is there a limit on the amount of transfer credit that can apply to the MBA degree program?

You can transfer up to 24 credits into the program. If you have completed graduate-level courses that you would like reviewed for possible application to the program requirements, submit an official transcript for review when you apply. Any credits above 24 will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for possible approval. Excelsior College requires a grade of B- or higher for any approved graduate course accepted for transfer credit. The College does not use pluses or minuses, so such grades will be converted to the full letter grade. To accept a course that is transferring in with a P grade, the college/department/ faculty member issuing the P grade must verify that it is equivalent to a B- or better.

Is there a time limit on the age of transfer credit?

All approved transfer credits must have been completed within 10 years prior to your enrollment date in the program

Can I take all the courses from Excelsior College?

Yes. Excelsior College currently offers all the courses needed to meet the MBA degree requirements.

Can life or work experience be used toward the degree?

Currently, we do not accept portfolio-based credits at the graduate-level. Students can complete degree requirements through Excelsior College online courses and other approved online or classroom based courses.

MBA Foundation Examinations

Who is eligible to take Excelsior MBA Foundation Exams?

Only students enrolled in an Excelsior MBA program may take Foundation Exams.

I took some of these courses as an undergraduate student. Do I need to take these exams?

No. In general, you do not have to take the graduate foundation courses if you have taken and passed upper‑level, undergraduate equivalent courses with a grade of "B" or better within the last ten years.

How do I sign up for the exams?

You can register for the exams either online or by phone. However, you must obtain an approval by your advisor prior to the registration.

What is the cost of the exam? Does the exam qualify for financial aid?

The cost of the exam is $300. The exam does not qualify for financial aid.

Do I get any course credits if I pass the exam?

No. You will not receive any credits. If you pass the exam, however, you will not be required to take the corresponding graduate foundation course.

I did not pass the exam. Can I take it over again?

No. You only have one chance to pass the exam. However, you are allowed to take another foundation exam. In general, you are allowed only one attempt for each foundation exam.

Am I required to purchase the textbook for the exam?

No. You are not required to purchase the textbook. However, it is a good idea to obtain a copy through a purchase or a library loan. This will allow you to go through the content and materials as a review for the exam.

Are the exams available internationally?

Yes. You can take the exam at Pearson VUE authorized test centers worldwide. There is an additional $10 charge.
