Nursing Bachelor's Program FAQ
You can start any time. The Bachelor’s Program in Nursing accepts applications for admission on a rolling or continuous basis.
Applicants must hold a current and active U.S. RN license or the international equivalent as verified by the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools. For more information about eligibility, please contact the Admissions Office.
The cost of the program depends on many factors, including how quickly you progress through the program. In addition to tuition costs, you should plan for costs associated with purchasing textbooks, Internet access and telephone charges. See Costs and Financing for more information.
The Nursing BS degree prepares registered nurses to become providers, coordinators, and managers of health care. The program is designed to build on prior education and also to serve as a foundation for graduate study.

Distribution requirements for general education ensure that all students develop basic competence (at least 100-level courses/examinations) in the areas of arts and sciences (humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and mathematics), as well as specific abilities in written English and information literacy.
Credit for Nursing Certifications
Excelsior College accepts a variety of nursing certifications for credit. For the full list see Credit for Nursing Certifications.
To receive degree credit for your nursing certifications, the certification board of the organization must submit your qualifications to Excelsior College on their official letterhead. It must be signed by an appropriate official at the certification board stating:
- your full name
- your birthday and month or last four digits of your SSN
- what test you took to earn certification and how long your certification is valid
The letter must be sent in a sealed envelope from the certification board directly to:

Upon receipt, the Records Office will verify the authenticity of the documentation and, once approved, will submit the letter to your academic advisor to update your records. You can expect to receive an updated status report within 4-6 weeks after the receipt of the letter.
