Program Coordinator, US Army Sergeants Major Academy, Texas

Excelsior College, a regionally accredited, private, nonprofit institution of higher learning, seeks applicants for the full-time position of Program Coordinator, US Army Sergeants Major Academy, in El Paso, Texas.


The primary function of this position is to serve as a liaison between the US Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) and Excelsior College to coordinate the on-site programs, provide on-site student support and advising services, and promote an increased awareness of Excelsior College.

The position requires a commitment to providing quality service by assimilating a large body of factual information, and relating it to students and military education counselors in a caring, efficient and consistent manner. The representative must have the ability to professionally represent Excelsior College within the wide academic and military community. Under direct supervision of the AVP, Center for Military Education, the Program Coordinator will also work closely with the Academic Schools in a collaborative approach to deliver quality programs and services. This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities also include addressing complaints and resolving problems.


A. Provide oversight and coordination of Excelsior College on-site programs delivered at USASMA relevant to the execution of the terms of the MOU to include determining the number of courses offered based on projected enrollments, provide USASMA with a listing of faculty and their qualifications prior to each academic year or term, arrange for visits by an Excelsior College Dean/Program Director or their designee to observe faculty and provide quality academic oversight, provide the USASMA Education Advisor with proposed course schedules for a one year period with courses that lead to degree completion, provide USASMA Education Advisor with enrollment and course registration statistics as requested, and maintain cleanliness of assigned office space and classrooms.

B. Coordinate the on-site Excelsior College course schedule for the US Army Sergeants Major Academy in collaboration with the Academic School's Program Directors and assist with faculty availability and scheduling. Work closely with the Center for Military Education, Academic Schools, the USASMA Education Advisor to promote communication and collaboration between all parties.

C. Responsible for the coordination of administrative functions such as course schedules, GoArmyEd degree selection and course registration, and Excelsior College policies and procedures.

D. Promote student recruitment and retention by conducting marketing activities and distribution of promotional materials.

E. Serve as the on-site resource for Excelsior College faculty related to administrative and student issues. Coordinator technology needs for faculty to include disbursement of technology and AV equipment for classroom use. Take necessary steps to maintain the cleanliness of assigned office space and classrooms.

F. Provide general advisement for prospective students at the US Army Sergeants Major Academy via personal interview. Conduct preliminary reviews of college and military transcripts toward Excelsior College degree programs to enable students to make an informed enrollment decision regarding Excelsior College. Provide information on distance learning courses, examinations, degree program planning, enrollment information, military tuition assistance, and veterans benefits.

G. Provide reports on activities relating to prospective student appointments, contacts, and presentations.

H. Provide reports on course registrations and enrollments.

I. Work toward College strategic planning goals and military enrollment and course goals.


  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution required
  • Previous experience in higher education and/or military education required
