VA Certification and Student Support Representative

Excelsior College seeks applicants for a full time position of VA Certification and Student Support Representative to work within the Center for Professional Development (CPD). The CPD is responsible for delivering high quality training programs to Excelsior College students and participating organizations. These non-credit programs are geared for those looking for professional development, continuing education, and lifelong learning. This position is based in Albany, NY.

Summary

The CPD VA Certification and Student Support Representative will perform a variety of administrative functions, primarily focusing on the operations of educational benefits provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and professional communication skills are required. The CPD VA Certification and Student Support Representative will demonstrate proficient knowledge of computer applications, word processing, VA-ONCE system, and the Excelsior College Student Information System (SIS).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the certification of VA educational benefits for the CPD, including collection of registration documentation, preparation and processing of VA claims, and claim amendments.
  • Demonstrate competency in the policies and procedures for the VA education entitlement programs and work to ensure student compliance with benefit requirements and timely resolution of student issues.
  • Manage the assessment of prior training / learning for all VA benefit students.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for the administration of VA benefits through the CPD.
  • Manage student progress monitoring efforts, including weekly reporting on clock hours and communication with students to ensure compliance with benefit claim requirements.
  • Possess strong knowledge of CPD course offerings. Provide prospective students with information that will help them decide if the CPD is a good option for their training needs.
  • Process student registrations within SIS and third-party systems.
  • Provide excellent customer service and resolution of issues through telephone, email, and the Excelsior College message center. Document all student correspondence through the Excelsior customer relationship management system (CRM).
  • Use CPD work queues including the message center, third-party payment, and VA claims reporting.
  • Assist students with CPD course extensions and subsequent benefit amendments. Record final grades in SIS, print certificates of completion, and manage the closure of all VA benefit claims.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years experience in a financial aid, bursar, or veterans affairs office.
  • Experience with VA-ONCE preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and professional communication skills.
  • Ability to write and edit correspondence. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
