John Pontius has devoted much of his professional career to the financial administration of higher education institutions. Mr. Pontius joined the international accounting firm of Coopers and Lybrand in its Albany, New York, office. He left Coopers and Lybrand after four years to join the administration at Hartwick College as vice president for finance, a position he held for eighteen years. Mr. Pontius moved from this position to join the faculty at Hartwick College, where he served as an associate professor of finance and chair of Hartwick’s Department of Accounting and Business Administration for five years. Mr. Pontius joined the administration at Excelsior College in 2006 as vice president for finance and administration.
Mr. Pontius has conducted research and given presentations in the area of financial modeling for educational institutions as well as the integration of long-term financial plans and current year budgets for colleges and universities. He has been active in his community, serving on the board of directors of numerous not-for-profit organizations including A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Catskill Area Hospice, the Catskill Symphony Orchestra, the City of Oneonta Board of Education, Orpheus Theatre, and the Dewar Foundation.
