Mary Beth Hanner
Mary Beth Hanner is responsible for ensuring that Excelsior College is effectively measuring student learning outcomes in courses and academic programs. One of her major goals is to keep Excelsior at the forefront as a leader in the areas of learning assessment and competency-based education. The other responsibility of her office is to enhance institutional effectiveness by collecting, analyzing, and disseminating research and program evaluation information. Dr. Hanner formerly served as Excelsior’s dean of the School of Nursing and vice president for Health Sciences. Prior to joining the College, she was a professor at the Sage Colleges, where she taught community health nursing as well as graduate courses in health care administration and epidemiology.
Dr. Hanner has received several awards for excellence in teaching and mentoring as well as the Douglas M. Johnson Recognition Award for leadership in minority student retention and diversity. Her publications and national presentations focus on online education, competency-based education models, evaluating clinical competence, gerontological research, outcomes assessment, quality improvement, and accreditation. She currently serves on the board of directors at the LaSalle Institute and the Hudson Mohawk Area Health Education Center.
