Dwayn's Story

Dwayn M. Hanford, of Springfield, Virginia, earned his Excelsior College Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts degree in 2005. He has also earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Maryland University College and a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence from the National Defense Intelligence College. He is a professor of intelligence studies at American Military University.

An active duty army warrant officer with more than twenty years experience as an all-source analyst/technician, Hanford served in the Gulf War, Bosnia, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His experiences include teaching counterinsurgency and intelligence at the Counterinsurgency Training Center in Kabul, Afghanistan, and serving in various positions including senior analyst for Iraq at the 1st Information Operations Command, all-source production chief for the U.S. Army Pacific Command, and senior analyst for Army Central Command for the initial commands in OEF and OIF. Hanford was recognized by the U.S. Army with a Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal in 2008, and in 2009, he received a Bronze Star Medal from the U.S. Army for his meritorious service in combat.

Hanford has been an active volunteer for many years and has shared his time and talents with organizations including the Boy Scouts of America and Little League of America. In 2008, he was honored with a Community Organization Award from the Boy Scouts of America.
