Countdown to Commencement: 195 Days
As of January 1, there are 195 days until Commencement on July 13, 2012 in Albany, NY. If you've never participated in a Commencement, you can walk this year. As an alumnus, you are eligible to participate at any time, but only once.

Stand Up and Be Recognized
Each year at Commencement, the College bestows three awards to deserving alumni. If you’d like to be considered for your achievements, nominate yourself by January 31, 2012. For more information about the self-nomination process, watch this archived Web chat.

Meet Us in Orlando
If you’re an alumnus living in the state of Florida, we want to meet you. Register for the Orlando Alumni Event by January 16. This event is free of charge, but space is limited.

The OWL Takes Flight
The Excelsior College Online Writing Lab (EC OWL) launched last month with a plethora of free services available to Excelsior alumni. Whether you’re writing term papers for graduate school or preparing reports for work, the OWL can help you achieve writing accuracy with tools such as Grammar Essentials, The Essay Zone, The Research Corridor, and the Avoiding Plagiarism Tutorial.

CJ: Options Beyond Law Enforcement
A criminal justice degree opens the door to many career opportunities – besides those with a uniform and a badge. On January 11, 2012, 7 pm – 8 pm ET, Excelsior College’s School of Liberal Arts will live stream a roundtable discussion featuring higher education leaders, criminal justice alumni, and members of the law enforcement community focusing on the value of the degree to commonly unexplored criminal justice pathways. Women in Nuclear Web Chat
On January 25, 2012, 7 pm – 8 pm ET, Excelsior College will host a special event webinar in recognition of National Nuclear Science Week focusing on the role of professional organizations in furthering career advancement for women in the nuclear field. Panelists include representatives from a number of organizations including Margaret Harding, the American Nuclear Society’s leading spokesperson during the Fukushima nuclear crisis last March. Ambassador Spotlight: Michelle Vega, BS '11
In July, Michelle Vega, BS ’11, flew with her husband from her hometown of San Antonio, TX to Albany, NY to take that milestone walk across the stage at Excelsior’s Commencement ceremony. That’s when she first met members of the Alumni Advisory Board and learned about the Alumni Ambassador Program. Now, Michelle, who works as an information technology consultant, is a top Ambassador who assisted with a telephone campaign to Lone Star alumni, encouraging them to join her at the Central Texas Alumni Event last November.
