Countdown to Commencement: 135 Days
As of March 1, there are 135 days until Commencement on July 13, 2012 in Albany, NY. If you've never participated in a Commencement, you can walk this year. As an alumnus, you are eligible to participate at any time, but only once. Information for those interested in attending Commencement this year will be posted on the College's Web site this month.
Alumni Lunch & Learn Event in New York State
The College's Alumni Lunch and Learn in Binghamton, NY has been postponed until April. However, if you live in New York's Southern Tier or near the New York – Pennsylvania border and you are interested in attending, please let us know and we'll have Alumni Ambassador Adrienne Mason, BS'11 contact you. Look for an invitation in your email in-box soon!
Poetry Can Be So Inviting
Alumni in New York's Capital Region are invited to two Excelsior-sponsored poetry events this month. In recognition of the launch of Excelsior College's Online Writing Lab, award winning poet James R. Whitley will read from his work at Excelsior's campus in Albany on Friday, March 9, 2012 from 12:45 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. A short reception will follow. Reservations are required. Excelsior's Favorite Poem Night is scheduled for Tuesday, March 20, 2012. This free event will be held at the Arts Center of the Capital Region, and readings will begin around 6 p.m. Reservations are required. RSVP by March 13 with the name and author of the poem you'd like to read (nothing over one page, please), or tell us if you'd just like to come and listen.
Make Time for Wellness
Join Alumni Ambassador Adrienne Mason, BS '11 on March 22, 2012,  8-9 pm ET, for an Web chat about wellness and the importance of taking care of you. Using her characteristic sense of humor, Adrienne will provide realistic options for working students and busy professionals that focus on flexibility and variety. Register today.

Nurses: What's Your Story?
How did you become a nurse? What are some of your memorable experiences on the job? What are the challenges you face? Why is the profession a rewarding one? Share your story for a new Excelsior book in which we want to reveal the critical role nurses play in contemporary health care, in a way that might inspire others to enter this rewarding profession. No writing will be required on your part and we'll ensure anonymity, where requested. To participate, please email William Patrick and he will schedule a phone interview with you.
Update on Courageous Learning
Courageous Learning: Finding a New Path through Higher Education by President Ebersole and William Patrick, will be taking a whirlwind tour of the U.S. in the coming months. Various members of Excelsior College will be travelling to over a dozen educational conferences and exhibits, and Courageous Learning will be traveling with them, hopefully reaching adults who want and need to finish their college degrees. Feel free to check out the book on our Web site, post a link to your Facebook page, and spread the word about this timely, useful book.
Upcoming Middle States Self-Study Review Visit
For the past two years, Excelsior College has been working on a self-study for reaccreditation through the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. On March 28, 2012 at 11:30 AM the Middle States team chair will read the visiting team's report, and the Excelsior community is invited. To attend, enter the virtual room around 11:15 am on March 28 "as a guest."
