|Employed as:||U.S. Army retired, candidate for the Troops to Teachers program|
H . Daniel Tulip of Greenville, Pennsylvania, worked toward his degree (May 2010) while serving on active duty in the U.S. Army. He spent nearly eight years on foreign soil including three back-to-back tours of duty in Iraq. Tulip was awarded multiple bronze stars for his accomplishments in transitioning the Iraqi police force. Completing a degree while serving in the military has its own challenges, but Mr. Tulip faced some personal obstacles as well. Following his first tour of duty in Iraq, he was diagnosed with cancer. After surgery and recovery time, he was declared cancer-free and returned to Iraq for two more tours.
Tulip enjoys giving back and helping others. He devoted many hours of his time to others while pursuing his degree and plans to use his skills in the future to develop fundraising events for needy veterans, starting with a 5K run this fall. In addition, he has been involved in his community by volunteering as an interview judge for the Ohio Academic Decathlon Regional Competition, interviewing and scoring nearly thirty students for this rigorous competition.
Tulip is also a volunteer driver for the Disabled Veterans of America, where he has assisted his fellow drivers in ensuring that 524 veterans met their appointments during this past year. He is always happy to help, even on short notice.
