Courses

The Center offers two intensive programs tailored to higher education chief information officers (CIO) and those serving in technology leadership roles.

Each course is taught by a CIO with guest CIO lecturers. Each participant receives a certificate and six hours of executive advising at the conclusion of the course. The program cost is $2,500 and includes textbooks and access to the Excelsior College Library and Gartner Research database. Travel, lodging, and meals are not included in the cost of the course.

Courses are held at Excelsior College in Albany, New York.

Leadership and the Higher Education CIO

April 16 – 20, 2012

Designed for the Chief Information Officer, this course includes a wide variety of key topics.

• Create a vision for how IT will build your organization's success.
• Shape and inform expectations for an IT-enabled enterprise.
• Compare strategic planning processes and models.
• Define useful organizational metrics.
• Evaluate organizational dynamics to develop your institution's IT governance model.
• Identify and navigate policy development and ethics challenges in higher education.
• Understand the nuances and complexities of executive and board interactions.

Technology Leadership: A Foundation for Aspiring Chief Information Officers

April 16 – 20, 2012

Designed for those individuals who are in technology management positions and who are thinking about advancing their career path, this course comprises a broad range of key subjects.

• Learn about the roles and responsibilities of a CIO and assess your readiness for the position.
• Evaluate CIO interpersonal skills and strategies.
• Understand the current and future issues facing higher education IT.
• Identify and resolve security and compliance issues.
• Analyze IT governance models.
• Gain insight on the latest standards and practices in ethics and policy development.
• Reflect on your career aspirations and develop a plan to successfully attain a CIO position.

Withdrawal and Cancellation Policies

To request a withdrawal from a course, participants must send an email to ctl@excelsior.edu

• Full registration may be transferred to a future session.
• 100% refund prior to the start of the course, less a $50 processing fee and the cost of materials ($300)
• No refund will be given after the course begins.

Should the Center need to cancel a session, participants will be notified 15 days in advance. Registrations may be transferred to a future class or tuition will be refunded in full less the cost of any materials received ($300).
