Lt. General (Ret.) Arthur Gregg has more than 60 years of professional experience, having held senior-level command and management positions in the military and industry. Currently retired from active management, he maintains a busy schedule as a member and chair of several corporate and nonprofit boards.

During his more than 35 years of military service, he spent 18 years overseas, serving in Germany, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. His assignments included commander, Army and Air Force Exchange System, Europe; deputy chief of staff for logistics, United States Army, Europe; director for logistics, Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, DC; and the Army’s deputy chief of staff for logistics, Washington, DC.

Following retirement from the Army in 1981, Gregg held several private sector positions during the period 1981–1998, including vice president and general manager, Cox Cable, New Orleans; vice president and chief operating officer, American Coastal Industries Inc.; vice president and chief operating officer, Steeltech Manufacturing Inc.; and chairman of the board and chief executive officer, James Martin Government Intelligence Inc.

A bachelor’s degree graduate of Saint Benedict College, summa cum laude, Gregg completed graduate-level studies at the Army War College and the Command and General Staff College. He also attended the concentrated Executive Program in National Security at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

In 1993 he was appointed to the Board of Overseers for Regents College and became chair in 1997. In 1998 he was appointed a founding trustee and chair of the Board of Trustees of Excelsior College. He was named chair emeritus at Excelsior College in 2008 and continues to serve on its President’s Advisory Council.

In his honor, the College created an annual award to an active-duty military member. Gregg and his friend Robert Kinsinger also created the Charlene Gregg and Bobbie Kinsinger Endowment Fund to provide scholarships for both financially needy enrolled and future students of the College.

A prominent leader in higher education, Dr. Joshua Smith was a professor and director of the Program in Higher Education and Center for Urban Commun
