Susan O'Hern now manages IT for 30,000 distance ed students and 1,500 staff/faculty nationwide and abroad

ALBANY, N.Y. (June 17, 2011) – Excelsior College has named Susan O'Hern as vice president for information technology, a crucial position that oversees operations and education technology infrastructure for 30,000 distance learning students, an Albany staff of nearly 500, and 1,000 dispersed faculty.

Excelsior is a regionally accredited, nonprofit distance learning institution serving working adult students nationwide and abroad.

Ms. O'Hern, a resident of Delmar, N.Y., was most recently interim vice president for information technology, and served previously as assistant vice president of information technology. She joined the college in 1988 as an information systems analyst, and has advanced through the IT ranks steadily ever since.

Excelsior College President Dr. John Ebersole said, "The Executive Staff and I have been tremendously pleased by the thoughtful, collegial and competent manner in which Ms. O'Hern has approached her new responsibilities. We are certain that the new IT initiatives that are being developed by the Enrollment Management division, and throughout the College, will be in good hands."

Ms. O'Hern is a 1988 graduate of the State University of New York-Albany and is now a candidate at Northeastern University for a master's in leadership. In 2010, she completed the Excelsior College Center for Technology Leadership's professional development program, "Leadership and the Higher Education CIO." Ms. O'Hern succeeds Dr. Wayne Brown, who has assumed the position of vice president for extended education at Excelsior.
