Student Characteristics

Adult learners, working at a distance, often find it difficult to locate others in their immediate environment with whom they can discuss readings, seek feedback from, or explore new ideas or concepts.

Adult learners may not be familiar with the expected behavior and values of academic life because there are no immediate role models. Working in isolation, adult students may have limited means to assess their achievements or the quality of their own work. For these students, engaging with their peers is of great benefit.
