A project of

Christopher Columbus High School

“English Second Language Learners” tells the story of the collaboration of a content area teacher and an ELL specialist at Christopher Columbus High School in Bronx, New York. Their collective efforts to adapt materials, re-think teaching techniques, and steadily raise expectations for ELL students resulted in outstanding results for all.

The video, divided here into three parts, provides practical advice — and inspiration — for anyone struggling to ensure that ELL students catch up with their counterparts for whom English is their first language.

The student members of the video club at Christopher Columbus High School in Bronx, NY — many of them immigrants themselves — produced this video, a glimpse into their world at school and beyond, all set to the tune of John Lennon’s “Imagine.”
