The Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) TEAS examination measures basic essential skills in reading, mathematics, science, English, and language usage. Test takers are allowed a total of 209 minutes overall for the exam. The exam is composed of four sections and 170 multiple choice questions:

- Science: 63 minutes
- English: 28 minutes
There are many ways to prepare for the TEAS. Excelsior College suggests that students use materials available from ATI, the developers and providers of the TEAS exam.

A Different Path to TEAS Preparation
There is a different path to TEAS preparation for prospective Associate degree students who are not yet ready to take the TEAS exam.
Students may enroll in an Associate in Liberal Arts degree program, an Associate in Health Sciences degree program, or a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree program and begin coursework in required general education courses and prepare for the TEAS. Once the student achieves the required score on the TEAS, they may apply to transfer into the Associate degree in Nursing program to continue their studies.
Note that admittance into a liberal arts or health sciences program does not guarantee admission into the Associate in Nursing degree program in the School of Nursing. The School of Nursing maintains its own admissions standards and academic requirements. When a student applies for transfer into the Associate in Nursing degree program, the School of Nursing conducts its own review of eligibility for acceptance.
