ESL WOW– Teaching English Language Learners How to Learn

Today, Excelsior College will celebrate the launch of the Excelsior College English as a Second Language Writing Online Workshop (ESL WOW) – a free, publicly available resource within the school’s Online Writing Lab (Excelsior College OWL).

The event will be highlighted by a Keynote Address given by Howard Pomann, director of the Institute for Intensive English at Union County Community College. His talk is entitled “Teaching English Language Learners How to Learn” and it will be broadcast on the web for free.

In his presentation, Pomann will discuss a learner training model which focuses on technical, strategic, pedagogical training necessary to assist students to become successful language learners.

Pomann is the Director of the Institute for Intensive English at Union County College. Prof. Pomann has extensive experience in the areas of curriculum development, teacher training and Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). He has directed several grants and given numerous presentations on the integration of CALL into the ESL curriculum and CALL learner training. His publications include several ESL textbooks and ESL software.
