Excelsior College designated Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education; MBA program earns specialty accreditation
Excelsior College’s School of Business and Technology continues to attract industry acclaim. On May 13, the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security designated Excelsior as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education, a recognition which extends through 2019.
In its announcement, the NSA stated:
Your ability to meet the increasing demands of the program criteria will serve the nation well in contributing to the protection of the National Information Infrastructure. The Presidents’ National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace, February 2003, and the International Strategy for Cyberspace, May 2011, addresses the critical shortage of professionals with these skills and highlights the importance of higher education as a solution to defending America’s cyberspace. “Like all nations, the United States has a compelling interest in defending its vital national assets, as well as our core principles and values, and we are committed to defending against those who would attempt to impede our ability to do so.” Education is the key to promoting these ideals.
Excelsior’s School of Business and Technology offers a breadth of cybersecurity-related programs at the undergraduate- and graduate-level, including:
- Bachelor of Science in Cyber Operations
- Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (Cybersecurity)
- Master of Science in Cybersecurity
- Master of Business Administration (Cybersecurity)
- Undergraduate Cybersecurity Certificate
- Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity Management
Each of these programs have been certified by the National Security Agency to meet the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) Training Standards. The college is also home to the National Cybersecurity Institute, an academic and research center located in Washington, DC dedicated to assisting government, industry, military, and academic sectors meet the challenges in cybersecurity policy, technology and education.
In addition, this past April, the Board of Commissioners of the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) accredited Excelsior’s MBA program and reaffirmed accreditation of its Bachelor of Science in Business.
