The Financial Aid Process at Excelsior College

Will you be using Federal Financial Aid to pay for your courses? If so, here is a quick guide to the financial aid process at Excelsior College.

  1. File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
    Fill out your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and enter the Excelsior College School Code: 014251. Our Financial Aid team will be in touch if any additional documentation is required. You may also view additional requirements in your MyExcelsior. Any additional documents requested will need to be complete prior to gaining access to your funds. Note: This step must be completed once per year.   2. Obtain Course Approvals
    To obtain course approval call your advisor, send a message in the Message Center, or request approval via the MAPlanner tool on your MyExcelsior homepage. Please note: Course approval is different from course registration. Following the next steps will lead to actual course registration.
  3. Submit a Financial Aid Study Plan
    Complete a Financial Aid Study Plan for each trimester for which you wish to register. Course approval is required to complete this form. Your study plan can be found on the “Financial Aid” tab of your MAPlanner Tool on your MyExcelsior account. Be sure to include all courses you intend to take for the trimester to allow for accurate financial aid awarding. Once the Study Plan is submitted, it will take approximately 7-10 business days to be reviewed.
  4. Watch for emails from Financial Aid
    Once your plan has been reviewed by our Financial Aid Office, you will receive notification of your eligibility to the email address you reported on the FAFSA.
  5. Accept your Financial Awards
    Review and accept or decline the awards you wish to use. Accepted awards will create a voucher to use during registration. The voucher is required to use financial aid as payment when registering for courses.
  6. Register for courses
    You may register for courses 24 business hours after accepting your financial aid. Go to the “Register” tab on your MyExcelsior and register for classes using your financial aid voucher. After registration, you will receive a confirmation email within one hour. Note: If you have selected Auto Course Registration when you completed your Study Plan, you will automatically be registered for courses. A confirmation email will be sent when the process is complete.
  7. Request a Book Voucher
    You may request a book voucher immediately after completing course registration, if you wish to use financial aid funds for this purpose. To qualify, you would need to have accepted enough federal financial aid to cover the cost of tuition, fees, and books. You may request your book voucher via the Book Voucher Request Form. Message Center or by emailing If you have not stated a desired amount, your book voucher will be valued at $140 per course. Please allow 7-10 business days for processing. Once your book voucher has been provided you can purchase your books through our bookstore. Access the bookstore from your MyExcelsior.
