Government Cyber Agency Will Be Here Shortly!

Well, it’s about time that we all started sharing! In an effort to get every government agency on board and to continue the build out of several post 9/11 command and control centers, the Obama Administration announced this month, the creation of a new government agency. It will be the dawn of all cybersecurity collaboration efforts. The new Cyber Threat Intelligence Integration Center (CTIIC) was announced on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 by President Obama. The center will be considered a new intelligence center that will be charged with collaboration and connecting cybersecurity threat data across all government agencies.

The center is to give the president actionable intelligence that is taking place in cyberspace in real time. The center will also be able to share data about various cyber threats to other U.S. government agencies as well as the private sector. Currently, various federal agencies have cybersecurity components, such as the National Security Agency (NSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and finally the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA); therefore the President will be able to connect these agencies to one center. The center will have the mission of providing an integrated all-source analysis of threats, based on a U.S. government official’s statement in regards to the new center.

The U.S. government has tried for many years to encourage such sharing and collaboration; however, much of the effort was lost due to politics across both aisles in the house. The new CTIIC will also provide more in the terms of jobs and employment opportunities for those students that are interested in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) field of cybersecurity and in serving in the government public sector. The center was basically a compromise for both parties and all together presents a win-win situation for the entire United States and our National security.
