R.I.S.E. Webinar: Mobile & Wireless Security

On July 19, 2016 the National Cybersecurity Institute (NCI) hosted a webinar entitled “Mobile & Wireless Security”.
Mobile devices are uniquely susceptible to security risks since they are always on and accessible. They also provide several means of communication and connectivity through text and multimedia messaging, voice, cellular networks, and wireless connectivity using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. Wireless networks and mobile devices work together. All computer networks are designed to allow various points within the network to communicate with each other and share information. A network can be as simple as one or two computers with printers, scanners or other devices or as complex as the Internet with millions of connected devices.
This webinar examined mobile security and wireless network security threats. Attendees of the webinar learnt more about how to successfully mitigate these threats. This webinar was the sixth in a series of eight webinars discussing the fundamentals of cybersecurity (Cybersecurity 101).
The webinar was presented by Dr. Kevin Newmeyer, currently the Senior Operations Director for the CREATE™ project of the DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program, Dr. Newmeyer has successfully held a variety of positions in the military, academia, international civil service, and the private sector. His research focuses on international policy issues in cybersecurity.
Along with his Ph.D. in Public Policy from Walden University, Dr. Newmeyer’s educational career is highlighted by his selection as an Olmsted Scholar which enabled him to earn his MA in International Relations from the Instituto Universitario Ortega y Gasset in Madrid, Spain. He holds additional degrees from Escuela Diplomática of Spain (Diplomado de Estudios Internacionales), George Mason University (MBA), and the US Naval Academy (BS).
