The Path of Infection

See webinar in full screenOn December 10, 2014, the National Cybersecurity Institute (NCI) hosted a webinar on “The Path of Infection”.

The webinar provided details on how malicious code is spread using an infected email attachment that runs a Visual Basic script designed to download a Windows executable file from a website, run it, and open the computer up for additional malicious downloads, as well as some data exfiltration.

Additionally, please find below two documents that explain how to setup and install a Ubuntu linux virtual machine on Windows and on OS X (for the Mac).

The webinar was presented by James Antonakos. James is a SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor of Computer Science at Broome Community College, in Binghamton, NY, where he has taught since 1984. Antonakos is the designer and director of the new 2-year AAS Degree in Computer Security and Forensics at Broome Community College. He is also the author or co-author of over 40 books on computers, networking, electronics, and technology. Additionally, James is a fellow at the National Cybersecurity Institute.
