The Excelsior College Examination, General Chemistry I, measures knowledge and understanding of material typically taught in a one-semester, three-credit, lower-level undergraduate course in chemistry. The content of the examination corresponds with course offerings such as Freshman Chemistry, Introduction to Chemistry, and College Chemistry.
The examination is based on material usually presented in a first semester course in general chemistry. The examination topics include theory and problem solving in chemical reactions, atomic structures and periodic trends, chemical bonding, states of matter, gases, and energy. A familiarity with college algebra or higher is assumed. (Multiple-choice examination)

A practice exam is available for $35: To register for a practice exam, visit www.excelsior.edu and log into your MyExcelsior account. You must be registered for the corresponding credit-bearing exam first before you can register for the practice exam.
Register for the Exam
You can register and pay for your exam online. After you register, you will receive an Authorization to Test letter. You'll need to select the 8- or 15-week term in which you'll take your exam.
Pearson charges a test administration fee when you schedule your appointment to test. Additional fees apply for phone transactions (scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling). Visit the Pearson website for the current fee structure.
