The UExcel Microbiology examination is based on material typically taught in an introductory, one-semester, three-credit, lower-level undergraduate course in microbiology. The examination measures knowledge and understanding of concepts and principles related to microbiology, including biology and control of microorganisms, disease, and resistance and the immune system. Topics also include bacteria, algae, fungi, protozoa, viruses, and their relationships with humans, the biology of microorganisms, control of microorganisms, the biology of infectious diseases, and environmental, food, and industrial microbiology. The examination assumes a general knowledge of concepts covered in chemistry, biology, or anatomy and physiology. (Multiple-choice examination.)

A practice exam is available for $75: To register for a practice exam, visit www.excelsior.edu and log into your MyExcelsior account. You must be registered for the corresponding credit-bearing exam first before you can register for the practice exam.
Register for the Exam
You can register and pay for your exam online. After you register, you will receive an Authorization to Test letter. You'll need to select the 8- or 15-week term in which you'll take your exam.
Pearson charges a test administration fee when you schedule your appointment to test. Additional fees apply for phone transactions (scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling). Visit the Pearson website for the current fee structure.
