The Institutional Research Analyst (IRA) works in a collaborative manner with all members of Analytics and Decision Support to produce quality research and statistics that support faculty, staff, and administrators in making data driven decisions. The IRA extracts data from the student information system and other data repositories, prepares summaries of descriptive statistics according to established reporting guidelines and schedules, prepares reports requested by external compliance and noncompliance agencies, assists in survey or qualitative data collection administration, and responds to ad hoc requests for descriptive statistics and other information.

This is a full-time hybrid role with a minimum of two required days at Excelsior's home office in Albany, NY, with the remainder of the days worked from home.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Extract data from Excelsior’s Student Information System and other college data systems for compliance reporting, external noncompliance reporting, and other requests for information.
  • Prepare and present data to various audiences using tables, charts, and narrative reports in a way that stakeholders can easily understand.
  • Administer regularly scheduled and ad hoc surveys/participant research and report results.
  • Respond to requests for external noncompliance data.
  • Collaborate with other departments on survey/focus group best practices.
  • Assist with research projects that contribute to the understanding of Excelsior University students.
  • Maintain various survey processes which include distributing the instruments, making regular updates at the request of academics, ensure proper documentation for any changes, maintain consistency between survey tool and database, produce reports and ad hoc data requests based upon survey data, and seek ways to streamline the processes already in place.
  • Keep current on compliance reporting policies and procedures, including data and definitions.
  • Assist with administration of student and faculty course evaluations each term.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree and some graduate coursework (Master’s preferred) in social science, psychology, mathematics, or other program with relevant coursework in statistics and research methods. Skill and experience with descriptive statistics, large data sets, and qualitative research methods Expertise with Microsoft Office, some experience with statistical software (such as SPSS, SAS, or R), and querying languages such as SQL are preferred. Experience designing/conducting participant research such as surveys, focus groups, and/or interviews. Experience with Qualtrics is a plus. Strong attention to detail, flexible, and ability to work well independently.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher education experience, particularly in institutional research (IR)
  • Survey design experience in Qualtrics
  • Familiarity with external reporting (state and/or federal)

    The hiring salary range for this position is $46,000.00 - $53,000.00. The hiring salary range above represents the University's good faith estimate at the time of posting.
