The IT Project Manager is responsible for the day to day management of technology projects across several technology units within the University. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative team that is passionate about fulfilling the mission of the University and will be required to have both technical and consummate communication skills to engage with a diverse audience. This position will be highly visible within both the Technology and Facilities Services (TFS) group as well as business units across the University. This position will be responsible for driving technology projects to successful conclusion, balancing resources in conjunction with other technology managers, and contributing to ensuring alignment of projects to strategic imperatives. This position will report to the IT Project Director in TFS. It is preferred that the IT Project Manager is based in Albany, New York, or a surrounding vicinity. However, remote work accommodations will be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Elicit specifications, gather requirements, and collaborate with cross functional team members to develop innovative solutions
Create detailed work plans which identify and sequence the activities needed to successfully complete projects as well as identify critical path and dependencies
Determine the resources (time, money, equipment, etc) required to complete projects successfully and effectively negotiate any constraints
Review project schedules with stakeholders that will be affected by project activities.
Determine the objectives and KPIs upon which projects will be evaluated at completion and build consensus from project sponsors and stakeholders
Monitor progress of projects and make adjustments in consultation with project teams to ensure the successful completion of the project
Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders in the organization on the progress of the project
Foster an environment conducive to team discussion and collaborative decision making
Create project status reports for management and project team members
Identify project constraints and recommend corrective actions
Manage all project funds according to established budgets, accounting policies and procedures
Ensure proper change controls are implemented and managed
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related degree or an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of relevant experience as described above
Four years of relevant experience as described above
Project Management Certification (PMI-PMP) is preferred
Preference will be given to those individuals who also possess prior leadership experience
Experience with system integration, technical & business architecture, and software development is preferred
Experience with project management and workflow tools such as Agile, Jira, WorkFront, Scrum/Kanban/SAFe, etc preferred.
Experience with open-source technologies and cloud services preferred.
Strong communication skills and ability to explain protocol and processes with team and management.
Commitment to keeping the technical environment in alignment with Excelsior policies and security guidelines.
Excellent organizational and decision-making skills including the demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while providing quality service
