We are seeking an instructional media strategist with expertise in media and information design and immersive learning.

Applicants must be passionate and have experience researching, creating, and implementing educational technologies and media that engage, excite, and inform. An ideal applicant should understand user experience (UX) design and have experience applying UX principles to educational technology and media design projects. This position is based out of the university’s home office in Albany, NY with the option of considering remote candidates. Remote employees will have mandatory occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and professional development opportunities. Remote employees are expected to be available during work hours 8:30am – 5:00pm Eastern time. The University will supply necessary equipment to perform the essential functions of this job (e.g., laptop, docking station). Employees are responsible for having a workspace where they can participate in virtual meetings without multiple interruptions and noise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Design and implement instructional presentations, videos, animations, and graphics to support and augment andragogy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop multimedia design and implementation strategies.
  • Write succinct technical documentation to help faculty and colleagues create compelling media assets.
  • Translate project requirements and instructional storyboards into high-fidelity mockups and functional prototypes for various media projects.
  • Identify gaps in existing media design processes and workflows and recommend new procedures to improve the efficiency of media production.
  • Develop use cases and lead design efforts for new forms of interactive and immersive learning products.
  • Collaborate with faculty and instructional designers to design, develop and implement media production plans.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.

    Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able and willing to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Bachelor's degree in UX design, visual communications, graphic design, or communication arts.
  • Experience managing multiple, complex multimedia projects concurrently.
  • Experience in video production, demonstrating proficiency in operating DSLR, mirrorless, or cinema cameras, lighting, and audio equipment in both on-location and studio environments.
  • Experience in video editing and motion graphic design, demonstrating proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
  • Experience creating and integrating instructional material to courses, curriculum, or training manuals is preferred.
  • Experience leveraging project management systems to generate progress reports, manage resource allocation and facilitate communication with project stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of virtual or augmented reality technologies
  • Strong entrepreneurial attitude towards product design, decision-making, self-motivation, and managing uncertainty.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to motivate staff, enable creativity and construct a culture of collaboration.
  • Ability to clarify and work through complex, ill-defined problems that involve multiple stakeholders and systems.

    Team Summary

    Excelsior's creative learning design and media services team is an ambitious group of technology and media professionals passionate about creating compelling learning experiences for our students. Members of our team specialize in graphic design, animation, user experience design, videography, software development, immersive learning, and more.

    Supervisory Responsibilities While no supervisory responsibilities apply to this position, this person will help mentor staff members on various aspects of media design and development.
