Focused Clinical Competencies Assessment (FCCA) main
Focused Clinical Competencies Assessment®
The Focused Clinical Competencies Assessment® (FCCA) is a computer-delivered simulated clinical assessment in which you demonstrate your ability to apply nursing knowledge and make nursing judgments about patient care.
Completing this assessment permits you to transition from nursing theory exams/courses to the Clinical Performance in Nursing Examination® (CPNE).
The Excelsior College Learning Management System delivers the FCCA as two separate 8-week online assessments. Each assessment may be taken alone (one per term) OR both may be taken during the same term:
- FCCA #274A: Head-to-Toe Assessment and Nursing Process
- FCCA #274C: Managing Multiple Patients / Working with Interdisciplinary Teams.
Note: The FCCA is not a course and its purpose is not to teach. You must complete each online assessment independently; collaboration is not permitted.
You'll become eligible to take the FCCA when you’ve successfully completed all 8 of the nursing theory requirements, submitted a new Verification of Health Care Experience (VHCE) form, and when you’ve completed 21 of the 31 required general education credits. The VHCE form expires 3 months after the date of your supervisor’s signature. You should consult with the academic advising team regarding the VHCE form.
Once you’re eligible, you will have access to the FCCA Review Guide, found on the My Details tab of your MyExcelsior portal.
