Honor Society Of Nursing: Tau Kappa-At-Large Chapter

In 2004, Sigma Theta Tau International, today known as Sigma, chartered Excelsior University’s School of Nursing’s honor society as the Tau Kappa Chapter. In 2014, the charter was amended and SUNY Empire State College School of Nursing joined Excelsior University School of Nursing to form the Tau Kappa-at-Large Chapter.

Baccalaureate and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and nurse leaders exhibiting exceptional achievements in nursing are eligible for membership. The complete Student Membership Criteria is available on the Sigma website.

Students who are Registered Nurses with a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent in any field and demonstrated achievement in nursing may apply to join the Sigma as a Nurse Leader if they meet the membership criteria. Nurse Leader candidates can apply at any time by visiting Why join Sigma? and clicking on the “I am a nurse leader” button.

STUDENT MEMBERSHIP

The Tau Kappa at-Large Chapter inducts members once a year. Chapter leaders review student records for eligibility in the spring. Students graduating prior to the next induction cycle are also considered for induction. Maintain a current email address with the college to ensure your invitation is received if you meet the induction criteria.
