Honor Society of Nursing: Tau Kappa Chapter

Membership to Sigma Theta Tau International, the international honor society of nurses was approved in 2003. A chartering ceremony in 2004 officially recognized the new Excelsior chapter, Tau Kappa.

Are you eligible for membership in the Tau Kappa Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau?

If you are a RN-BS student or graduate, you will be invited to join if you meet the following criteria:

You must be a currently enrolled or recently graduated (between April 1 of the previous year and March 31 of the current year) student in the RN-BS program.
You must have completed 61 general education credits and 30 nursing credits and maintain an Excelsior College Grade Point Average (GPA) placing you in the top 35% of your class.

If you are a MS or RN-MS student or graduate, you will be invited to join if you meet the following criteria:

You must be a currently enrolled or recently graduated (between April 1 of the previous year and March 31 of the current year) student in the MS or RN-MS program.
You must have completed 21 nursing credits and maintained an Excelsior College Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher.

For all of you who have been invited to join before and didn’t take advantage of the opportunity, you will not receive another invitation. You may apply as a Community Leader once you have earned your BS or MS degree.

Registered nurses who have earned a bachelor's degree in any field and have demonstrated leadership in the profession of nursing may join the Tau Kappa Chapter directly by contacting member services.
