School of Record Credit Sources
This policy outlines the framework for Excelsior University, as an accredited U.S. institution of higher education, to serve as a School of Record (SOR) for third-party experiential learning programs with which Excelsior has an agreement in place. The School of Record verifies all elements necessary for official documentation, including academic rigor, faculty qualifications, and course content.
This policy applies to:
- Domestic and international internships
- Service learning and community engagement programs
- Project-based learning experiences
- Other non-credit-bearing or non-accredited programs seeking academic validation
Procedure
Excelsior University serves as a School of Record (SOR) for approved third-party experiential learning programs.
This relationship involves a formalized set of academic, administrative, and compliance procedures to ensure that credit is awarded in accordance with university policies and academic standards.
The third-party provider is responsible for supervising and evaluating the student’s experiential learning, including the credit amount and grade awarded.
Upon review and approval, Excelsior University will record the approved credit onto the Excelsior academic record.
Students engaging in an SOR program will be eligible to request an official Excelsior University transcript reflecting this credit. Transcripts will only be issued for passing grades. This credit will not impact a student’s Excelsior University GPA.
Transfer credit is not guaranteed and is subject to review by a student’s home institution.
