Walter Were

Walter Were is an author, speaker, and an organizational leader in Health and Human Services. He comes to the ALC with over 15 years of senior executive leadership experience in health and human services. Were is currently the Vice President of Greater Hearts Human Services, and he played prior executive leadership roles as Assistant Executive Director of Passavant Memorial Homes, and Director of Business Development at Passavant Development Corporation. Mr. Were has authored Guide To Earning College Credits Through Testing (2006), and Hacking College (2022). He has a passion for lifelong learning and is devoted to empowering others with the necessary tools for personal and professional development. In the community, he volunteers as 1st Vice President of the Alumni Leadership Council (ALC) of Excelsior University, Board Member at Greater Pittsburgh YMCA, and Vice Chair of the advisory board at Sampson Family YMCA. Mr. Were earned a BS in Liberal Arts (2005), Excelsior University; and an MA in Adult and Community Education (2007), Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
