NUC246 Thermal Measurement Laboratory
Description
This laboratory course provides an understanding of thermodynamic principles and their application to systems, emphasizing nuclear power plant operations. The course includes use of the Generic Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) simulator, which provides hands-on experience with topics such as the circulating water system, steam generator heat balance, main and reheat systems, overall plant efficiency, flux distribution, decay heat production, and load rejection. Note, not all students need this course. It is required if transferring in a thermodynamics course that does not include a laboratory component. This course is not required if NUC 245 course is taken at Excelsior. Note, the PWR simulator utilizes specific technologies that may present accessibility challenges for individuals with disabilities. Accessibility inquiries can be directed to the department chair.
Prerequisites
MAT120 Precalculus. Students should not take NUC 246 THERMAL MEASUREMENTS LABORATORY if they if have taken NUC 245 THERMODYNAMICS or have met the thermodynamics requirement with a lab
