THE NURSING EDUCATION CAPSTONE
NUR676, the graduate Nursing Education Capstone Experience, is a 6-credit course that showcases end of program student learning outcomes and career competencies that were introduced and reinforced in previous coursework. The career competencies are based on the National League for Nursing s Nurse Educator Competencies and the American Associations for Colleges of Nursing s Master s Essentials for Nursing Practice. The course is project-based and requires 135 hours of direct practice experience. Students Capstone Teaching and Learning projects demonstrate career competencies in action. The Project is an opportunity to apply these competencies to the education of nursing students, interprofessional teams, or health care staff. The assignments in the course include: a Capstone Project Proposal, an electronic poster of the Capstone Project submitted for consideration to a professional meeting, a video presentation with the electronic poster, Letters to the Editor advocating for policy changes in education , a manuscript about the Capstone project to submit to an academic journal, and scholarly conversations on nursing education trends.
