Maximum Credit Hour Policy – Undergraduate and Graduate

Statement of Policy

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that students do not register for an excessive amount of credit hours in any given term that would adversely affect their academic success.

Undergraduate Students

  • Undergraduate enrolled students may register for no more that 24 credits in a trimester.
  • Students are also limited to registering for no more than 12 credits in 8 week courses per term.
  • The maximum number of credits that a undergraduate enrolled student can be registered at any given time is 18.
  • This policy pertains to Excelsior College sources of credit (see also Limitations on Concurrent Examination Registration and Nursing Theory Conference Examinations).

Graduate Students

  • Graduate enrolled students may register for no more than 16 credits in a trimester.
  • Students are also limited to registering for no more than 8 credits in 8 week courses per term.
  • The maximum number of credits that a graduate enrolled student can be registered at any given time is 12.
  • This policy pertains to both Excelsior College sources of credit (see also Limitations on Concurrent Examination Registration and Nursing Theory Conference Examinations).

Procedure

The Student Information System prevents students from exceeding the maximum credit hour limit.

Any exception to this policy must be approved by the Dean or designee.
