Description

NUR 111 introduces the core concepts, skills, and professional behaviors that form the foundation of safe, patient-centered nursing practice. Students learn how to collect and document health data, complete general surveys, measure vital signs, and perform basic physical assessments across the lifespan. Through skills lab practice, simulation, and case-based learning, students develop clinical judgment, therapeutic communication, and competence in essential nursing care. Course content focuses on patient safety and infection control, wound care and skin integrity, medication safety and dosage calculation, cultural responsiveness, and health promotion strategies. Ethical, legal, and regulatory principles are applied to reinforce professional accountability and safe decision-making. Upon successful completion, students demonstrate competency in the nursing process, provide safe and compassionate care, employ informatics tools effectively, and meet entry-level expectations aligned with program learning outcomes. Prerequisite(s) Completion of required nursing prerequisites, including coursework in: Written English Lifespan development psychology Sociology Anatomy and physiology Microbiology College-level mathematics
