Commencement and related events are in downtown Albany, New York, at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center, and the Albany Capital Center. They are in short walking distance of each other with access via an enclosed walkway. The recommended parking lot is the Visitors Lot at the Empire State Plaza. Hooding Ceremony—Check-in for Master’s Graduates
In recognition of graduate degree achievement, master’s graduates participate in a hooding ceremony hosted by the College Provost prior to Commencement. The hood is part of academic regalia; its color reflects the field of study and denotes scholarly achievement. Guests welcome.
- As a master’s graduate, your registration includes the hooding ceremony.
- Ceremony begins promptly at 1:00 pm.
- Note: Master’s graduates arriving after 1:00 pm should check in at Commencement ceremony check-in below.

Commencement Ceremony
Celebrate your achievements by walking across the stage at the 48th Annual Commencement of Excelsior College. Highlights include remarks by a fellow graduate.
