Award Information and Selection Criteria

The Office of Alumni Engagement invites all Excelsior University, Excelsior College, Regents College, and Regents External Degree Program alumni to apply for an alumni award. We know you’ve been up to great things since you earned your degree from Excelsior, so here’s your opportunity to let us know about it! Tell us how you’ve used your degree to advance your career or improve life in your community by applying for an alumni award.

Timeline for Alumni Awards Application, Selection Process & Selection Criteria

  • Applicants must be graduates of Excelsior University, Excelsior College, Regents College, and/or Regents External Degree Program.
  • Applicants must fill out applications fully. To be considered for an award, applications must be submitted by the final submission deadline of January 31 annually.
  • Applicants may apply for multiple awards but can only be selected for one.
  • Applicants must be willing to participate in a background check if they are chosen as a top candidate.
  • Applicants must be reachable via email.
  • Previous awardees are ineligible to receive the same award.

  • Award applications will be accepted beginning January 1, with the final submission deadline of January 31 annually.
  • Top candidates will be selected and notified via email by early February.
  • The Office of Alumni Engagement will notify selected top applicants on behalf of the Alumni Leadership Council Awards and Nominations committee by mid-March.
  • Excelsior University’s process requires background checks for all top award candidates before award selections are fully finalized. The University uses Justifacts for this process.
  • All applicants will be notified of final decisions by the end of March.

Alumni Achievement Award

Recognizes outstanding academic, professional, personal, and community contributions that are representative of our graduates. Presented to a graduate whose achievements may serve as a role model to inspire other graduates and students. Alumni are encouraged to apply for this award on the Alumni Award Application page.

Carrie B. Lenburg Award

Presented to an outstanding nursing graduate in recognition of the accomplishments and vision of Dr. Carrie Lenburg, coordinator of the Regents College Nursing Program from 1973 to 1990. It commemorates her commitment to helping nurses attain their educational and professional goals. This award is presented to a nurse who demonstrates a commitment to nursing education as well as academic and professional accomplishments in the field of nursing. Alumni are encouraged to apply for this award on the Alumni Award Application page.

C. Wayne Williams Award

Named after Excelsior’s first president, this award is presented in recognition of outstanding public service and community involvement by a graduate. Alumni are encouraged to apply for this award on the Alumni Award Application page.

Alumni Service Award

The Alumni Service Award recognizes outstanding service by a graduate to the community in which they live and work, while also supporting the mission and goals of Excelsior University. This award honors efforts in advocacy, connection, or outreach that serve as a role model to others. Candidates for this award are nominated by the Alumni Leadership Council, Excelsior staff, Excelsior Board of Trustees, or the alumni community at large. Ever Upward Award

The Excelsior University Ever Upward Award recognizes an extraordinary individual whose accomplishments, leadership, and service have not only brought honor to their alma mater but have also made a significant national impact in their field. This special award is reserved for alumni who embody the highest standards of excellence, innovation, and dedication, standing far above their peers. This award is also given to recent graduates who demonstrate exceptional promise and potential for future national or international prominence in their careers.

The award recipients will be identified, vetted, and chosen by the members of the Alumni Leadership Council. This award will not be open to public nominations. The Council will bestow the award.
