Undergraduate and Graduate Course Liability/Refunds for Military Students

Students using Military Tuition Assistance (TA) to pay for Excelsior College course tuition are subject to the Department of Defense (DoD) policy that requires Excelsior College to return any unearned TA funds to the military branch of service based on how much of the course was completed. Students using Military TA who withdraw from a course may owe a portion of the tuition to Excelsior College and a portion to the military branch. See Return of Unearned Tuition Assistance Funds policy for additional information.

Prior to and during the first 15 calendar days of the beginning of the term, military students may withdraw from a course with no record of the course appearing on their status report or transcript. They will incur no financial liability for the course.

After the first 15 calendar days have elapsed, military students may withdraw from a course and will be assigned a grade of W. At that time, they will incur full liability for the course.

Military students will have until seven calendar days prior to the end of the course to request a withdrawal (W grade) or an Incomplete (I grade). See the Course Extensions Policy for information on how to request an Incomplete (I grade). Military students who have been approved under Excelsior College Military Deployment Policy and wish to withdraw from a course after 15 calendar days after the course start date will be assigned a grade of MW (military withdrawal).
