Course Withdrawal and Refund Policy
I. STATEMENT OF POLICY
Students may cancel or withdraw from a course within the first 15 calendar days of the start of the term with no record of it appearing on their MAP or EC transcript. Refer to the Refunds and Financial Liability section for course refunds.
Students will have until seven calendar days prior to the end of the course to request a withdrawal (W grade) or an Incomplete (I grade). See Course Extensions Policy for information on how to request an Incomplete (I grade).
After the first 15 calendar* days of the term and up until 7 calendar days prior to the end of the term, students may withdraw from a course and will be assigned a grade of W. Grades of W appear on their MAP and transcript. (For course extensions and Incomplete grades, see the Course Extension Policy).
Students who do not requested a withdrawal (W grade), or an Incomplete (I grade), will be assigned the grade they have earned.
To cancel or withdraw from a course, students must login to their My Excelsior page and withdraw or cancel online.
* Note: No refund will be granted to a student who has opened the final examination for INL 102 Information Literacy. Students can register for INL 102 up to 20 days after the term begins. If students register after the term begins, refunds for INL 102 will be calculated using the date of registration as the first day of the course.
Students who withdraw and have used Financial Aid to pay for courses must go through re-evaluation of their eligibility. This may result in a loss of funds.
Refunds are calculated based on the full cost of tuition.
Students who wish to cancel a course must do so within the first 15 calendar days of the beginning of the term. There is no academic penalty to cancel within the first 15 calendar days. Tuition and the technology fee is refundable*, according to the chart below.

Due to Federal Regulations, students residing in California, Maryland, New Mexico and Oregon will be refunded following their State refund guidelines. Please contact the Student Accounting Office for more information.
Undergraduate and Graduate Course Liability/Refunds for Military Students
Students using Military Tuition Assistance (TA) to pay for Excelsior College course tuition are subject to the Department of Defense (DoD) policy that requires Excelsior College to return any unearned TA funds to the military branch of service based on how much of the course was completed. Students using Military TA who withdraw from a course may owe a portion of the tuition to Excelsior College and a portion to the military branch. Prior to and during the first 15 calendar days of the beginning of the term, military students may withdraw from a course with no record of the course appearing on their status report or transcript. They will incur no financial liability for the course.
After the first 15 calendar days have elapsed, military students may withdraw from a course and will be assigned a grade of W. At that time, they will incur full liability for the course.
Military students will have until seven calendar days prior to the end of the course to request a withdrawal (W grade) or an Incomplete (I grade). Military students who have been approved under Excelsior College Military Deployment Policy and wish to withdraw from a course after 15 calendar days after the course start date will be assigned a grade of MW (military withdrawal). A grade of MW is treated like a W grade and will appear on the status report and transcript.
To cancel or withdraw from a course, students must login to their MyExcelsior page and withdraw or cancel online.
